The board of Boxing South Africa (BSA) decided at its meeting on Saturday to retain statistician Andre de Vries as chairperson of the ratings  committee.

De Vries chaired the ratings committee following his appointment by acting BSA chief executive officer Mandla Ntlanganiso when he was still the regulator’s accounting authority.

The Capetonian held the position until he resigned in disgust after the then BSA board whose term ended in December sanctioned a fight between Asanda Gingqi and Sifiso Hlongwane in August last year.

The then sanctioning committee refused to sanction Hlongwane’s fight as he was not rated in the junior-lightweight division at the time.

Other members of the ratings committee who will work with De Vries are yet to be confirmed.

Meanwhile, BSA board member Dr Luvuyo Bayeni is the new chairperson of the sanctioning committee. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
