Fantastic 2 Boxing Promotions boss Elias Tshabalala is about to receive his comeuppance after he failed to pay the purses of Tanzanian boxers Jesca Mfinanga and Egine Kayange, who fought in his tournament in June.
Mfinanga and Kayange didn’t get their purses after they lost to Simangele Hadebe and Monica Mkandla respectively. As a result of them not getting their purses, the two boxers refused to leave South Africa for Tanzania.
They then found themselves stranded in South Africa without a single dime. They ultimately found refugee at the Tanzanian High Commission in Pretoria where they spent more than seven days until Boxing South Africa (BSA) intervened, buying them airtickets and also paying their $5200 (about R95 000) combined purses.
“I can confirm that Mr Elias Tshabalala’s promoter’s licence has been suspended by Boxing SA. He will be appearing before a disciplinary committee soon,” acting BSA chief executive officer Mandla Ntlanganiso said.
The tournament where Mfinanga and Kayange fought was postponed before it actually took place. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
