Even though an outcome of a fight review favoured his boxer, Cape Town-based trainer Zola Koti has made it clear that his charge Asavela Peter is not going to fight against Sandiso Centane as long as Mzoli Tempi is Boxing South Africa (BSA) manager in the Western Cape.

Peter lost to Centane during a Western Cape minimumweight title contest in June and Koti refused to accept the outcome of the bout thus he wrote to BSA asking for the review of the fight.

In a letter to acting BSA director of operations Mncedisi Ngqumba, which Koti wrote last Thursday, he said: “We are generally satisfied with the review’s outcome. We decided not to squeeze and drain Asavela Peter for minimumweight again. Asavela has outgrown the minimumweight.”

Koti added: “I also wish to express my fear for Asavela Peter to fight Sandiso Centane for a rematch while Mr Mzoli Tempi is still the Western Cape provincial manager. Mr Mzoli Tempi publicly celebrated Sandiso Centane’s victory on social media while a formal review application was underway with Boxing SA.”

Koti strongly believes that the provincial manager’s action created an impression that Tempi favoured Centane something which he said would prejudice Peter.

Meanwhile, Tempi declined to comment on Koti’s letter when contacted by Ink Sport. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
