Just over two weeks after he put up an impressive performance, reminding boxing followers that he’s still a force to be reckoned as he stopped Chumani Tunzi in the sixth round, things are now looking good for former South African champion Aphiwe ‘Swagger’ Boyiya.
The erstwhile SA featherweight and junior-lightweight titlist has teamed up with Kay B Promotions where his career plans are going to be taken care of.
Before squaring up against Tunzi in an Eastern Cape junior-welterweight title fight, Amalinda-based Boyiya hadn’t fought since he was stopped in the fifth round by Khaya Busakwe, who’s now the reiging SA lightweight champion, in October 2022.
“We concluded plans for the next six months for Aphiwe and his team,” Kay B Promotions boss Mzi Booi said without elaborating further.
Following his win over Tunzi, Boyiya has gatecrashed the Boxing South Africa (BSA) ratings and is now rated number four. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
