He might be nursing a heavy heart following the departure of Siseko Teyisi, fitness fanatic and boxing trainer Zolile ‘Gqo’ Mahambi said that he’s got no hard feelings towards the boxer, who has since teamed up with Mnyamezeli Shosha.
And Mahambi has even wished Teyisi good luck in his upcoming vacant South African junior-flyweight title fight against Mfanuvele Ntuli in East London next month. The SA title became vacant after Mpumelelo Tshabalala won the International Boxing Organisation (IBO) crown in September.
“He left me four weeks ago and joined Mnyamezeli Shosha. I’m fine with that. I come a very long way with Siseko. He was eight years old when we met. Maybe he left because he saw something where he is now,” Mahambi said.
“He’s more like my son and he’s welcome any time should he decide to return to my gym. However, there will be conditions should he decide to come back. I wish him all the best in his upcoming South African title fight.”
The unbeaten Teyisi is going to face off against Ntuli at the Orient Theatre in East London on Saturday, 14 December. The 19-year-old Teyisi has won all his five fights with stoppages.
Meanwhile, Ntuli from Ulundi in KwaZulu-Natal is based in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni, and is trained by Nelson Baku. Ntuli, who is rated number one in the junior-flyweight division, has registered five wins with five knockouts, three losses and a draw. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
