A fight that the Western Cape boxing community tried to avoid is finally happening as Simamkele Tutsheni and Caleigh Swart collide at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, on Women’s Day.

This vacant International Boxing Organisation (IBO) All-Africa female junior-featherweight title fight pits two unbeaten boxers against each other as Tutsheni and Swart clash on Saturday, 9 August.

Tutsheni, who is rated number one in the South African female junior-featherweight division, has won all her seven fights with three of those wins coming from knockouts. And the 2023 Prospect of the Year nominee last fought when she defeated Zimbabwean Pamela Matunga in September.

On the other hand, Swart has one stoppage in five wins. She has already fought twice this year, registering wins over Nolwazi Mabaso in April and Seani Morite five months ago.

Interestingly, both Tutsheni and Swart have fought and beaten almost the same opponents. They emerged victorious in their fights against Matunga and Anam Xuza.

Meanwhile, Tutsheni’s fight against Swart is going to form part of Golden Gloves’ Mzansi Magic tournament, which is headlined by an International Boxing Organisation (IBO) title contest between the defending champion Ricardo Malajika and Jayson Mama from the Philippines.
