Gqeberha-based female boxer Owethu Rula is scheduled to square up against Malawian opponent Mphatso Metaudzu later next month.

Rula’s fight against the Malawian is set to be promoted by Aphile Promotions at the George Botha Community Sports Centre in KwaNoxolo, Gqeberha, on Saturday, 23 August.

Rula, who’s rated number one in the South African female flyweight division, defeated Zizo Skoti at the Nangoza Jebe Hall in New Brighton, Gqeberha, in her last fight in March. She made two unsuccessful attempts to win the SA female junior-flyweight title, but lost to reigning champion Nozwelethu Mathontsi on both occasions.

The Eastern Cape female flyweight champion carries, to the fight, a professional record of six wins with one knockout and five losses while Metaudzu has only won once and registered five straight defeats.
