Retired ring official and New Zealand-born Bruce McTavish passed away at the age of 84 in the Philippines on Wednesday. 

Born in Auckland, New Zealand, on 11 October 1940, McTavish had made the Philippines his home for more than five decades and was a resident of Angeles City in Pampanga.

After staying in the Philippines since the 1960s, McTavish was only granted Filipino citizenship in 2018 in recognition of his deep ties to the country. 

Throughout his distinguished career, McTavish officiated in more than 400 bouts as a referee and judged over 200 fights. He was the World Boxing Council (WBC) Referee of the Year award winner in 2013, 2015 and 2017.
