Fighting for the first time in front of his home crowd, Sinovuyo ‘Pink One’ Mthintelwa didn’t disappoint as he dispatched Lutho Gungutho from Nxarhuni early during their fight at the OR Tambo Hall in Mthatha on Saturday.
Following his second round stoppage victory, Mthintelwa annexed the vacant Eastern Cape flyweight title. Mthatha-born Mthintelwa, who is trained by Thembani ‘Best’ Gopheni, stretched his unbeaten record to five wins with four knockouts.
Having fought three times away in East London and once in Midrand, making a home debut, Mthintelwa made a lasting impression on the minds of Mthatha boxing followers.
And former South African bantamweight title contender Lusizo Manzana also brought smiles to Mthatha boxing fans as he stopped Michael Daries from Kirkwood in the first round. This was Mthatha-born Manzana’s second successive win having defeated Aphiwe Rasmeni by a unanimous decision at the Hemingways in East London last month.
In a bout, which pitted Duncan Village boxers against each other, the fight between Awonke Tini and Sihle Booi ended in a draw.
