Greenhorn Daniel Nathan has taken after his father, Colin, in the business of managing boxers as he renewed his licence with Boxing South Africa (BSA) on Tuesday afternoon.
Only 20 years old, Daniel, who is a Bachelor of commerce student, is one of the youngest BSA licensees.
“The growth has been phenomenal and it continues to keep growing and growing. We arguably have the most talented pool of South African fighters on our books. I sometimes have to pinch myself and often can’t believe how this idea to start a boxing management company, the first in South Africa, has become so successful,” Colin said.
“I feel that the time has come to possibly bring someone who can help me with fighter relations. I said in the past that I didn’t want to bring my family into this sport. But it’s also an industry where it’s very difficult to trust people and who better than someone close to me who I love and trust? Daniel still needs to complete his BCom while being at varsity, but I would like to slowly mentor him and know that I can turn to him if I need help.”
Daniel said: “It’s really cool, I get to work with my dad. It’s cool because I got to work in the corner with him and I feel like this is kind of a level up. I was brought up watching boxing and going to matches from a young age.”
