Errikie ‘Shotgun’ Errikie from Walvis Bay in Namibia is set to return to KuGompo City in August as he has a date with Eastern Cape junior-lightweight champion Lubabalo Kweyi.
Errikie broke the hearts of KuGompo City boxing followers when he stopped previously unbeaten Lonwabo ‘Monster’ Sizani at the Guild Theatre last Saturday. And as a result of the fourth round stoppage win, Errikie returned to his Walvis Bay home with the World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver Youth junior-lightweight championship belt.
“We don’t know who Lubabalo Kweyi is. I have not watched anything about him yet, but as far as I’m concerned he is the one who called out Shotgun. So, I don’t think he’s an easy opponent for Shotgun,” Errikie’s trainer Jose Kambinda said.
“We are starting with our training as usual on Monday, then we will see or watch something about him. But I guess he’s good, we will make the fight happen.”
After he defeated Sizani, Errikie improved his record to five wins with three knockouts and a loss. Kweyi, on the other hand, has four victories with four stoppages, one loss and two draws.
Meanwhile, Kweyi, who is trained by former SA flyweight champion Ncedo Cecane, will go to the Errikie fight following a loss to South African junior-lightweight champion Asanda Gingqi in December last year. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
