Following Sanele Msimang’s withdrawal from his fight against Xolisani ‘Nomeva’ Ndongeni due to injury, the organisers have secured Chumani ‘AK 47’ Tunzi as Ndongeni’s opponent for next Saturday’s tournament scheduled for the Jan Smuts Stadium in KuGompo City.

Tunzi will be fighting for the first time since losing his Eastern Cape junior-welterweight title to Aphiwe Boyiya in August 2024. The Mdantsane-born Tunzi has won eight times with six knockouts and two defeats.

“Ground Up Sports Promotion further confirms that Chumani Sgadla Tunzi has officially been secured as the replacement opponent for Nomeva, subject to all regulatory approvals and promotional processes,” a Ground Up Boxing Promotions statement said.

The fight will form part of the tournament, which will see Ndongeni, a former South African and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) lightweight champion, fighting for the last time as a professional boxer.

And this is also the same tournament where Siseko Teyisi will face Neel Jacamos from the Philippines in a World Boxing Council (WBC) Youth junior-flyweight title.

SA champion Sharadene Fortuin has a date with Zambian opponent Alice Mbewe in a vacant WBC International female bantamweight title contest. Former SA junior-flyweight titlist Nhlanhla Tyirha will engage Nhlakanipho  Kunene in a vacant IBO minimumweight title fight.

Meanwhile, Lindelani Sibisi from Dundee in Kwa-Zulu-Natal will make the first defence of his national featherweight title in a fight against Makhanda-born Bongani Fule.
