Gqeberha boxer Owethu Rula is going to realise her dream of fighting for the world title when she clashes with current South African female flyweight champion Simangele Hadebe in Cape Town.
An IT specialist, Rula faces Hadebe in a vacant World Boxing Federation (WBF) female flyweight title contest at the Grand West Casino on Saturday, 8 August.
“Owethu Rula is back in August for the WBF world flyweight title, not the SA title anymore. She will be fighting against SA champion Simangele Hadebe,” Rula’s manager Caiphus Ntante revealed.
Initially, Rula had challenged for Hadebe’s SA title, but the fight promoters – Fight Club Promotions – upgraded the bout to the WBF crown.
Rula will go to the Hadebe fight on the back of two wins over Zizo Skoti and Mihle Tuli. On the other hand, Hadebe lost to Sibulele Soboois in a vacant World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Africa female flyweight title fight in February this year. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
