After being silent for a few weeks, reigning South African junior-flyweight champion Siseko Teyisi from Mdantsane has finally accepted a challenge from Mpumelelo Tshabalala.

Katlehong-based Tshabalala’s challenge was approved by Boxing South Africa (BSA) last month and fight fans had been waiting with bated breaths to see whether Teyisi would be keen to face the former SA and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-flyweight titlist or not.

“Yes, we have accepted the challenge. We want to see whether we will be up to the task against overseas opponents by winning all our fights here at home,” Teyisi’s manager Bongani Bozo said.

Teyisi defeated Neel Jacamos from the Philippines on points during their clash for the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Youth junior-flyweight title at the Jan Smuts Stadium in KuGompo City in May.

On the other hand, Tshabalala is yet to fight since he suffered a third round stoppage loss to Mexican boxer Sergio Alphonso Mendoza Cordova in an International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight elimination bout held in Sonora, Hermosillo, Mexico last November. – Monwabisi Jimlongo

  1. This is one of those eagerly awaited fights you wish not to witness.
This surely is a nominee for the fight of the year award . Teyisi is up against a wounded lion in Tshabalala & a win against him will improve his rating in major sanctioning bodies .
    We await the showdown.
