Nhlanhla ‘Mount Kilimanjaro’ Tyirha has changed his mind and decided against hanging up his gloves after he made a shocking announcement that he was quitting boxing two weeks ago.
Tyirha dropped a bombshell when he announced that he was retiring just over a month after he captured the vacant International Boxing Organisation (IBO) minimumweight title following a win over Nhlakanipho Kunene at the Jan Smuts Stadium in KuGompo City. At the time he made the announcement, Tyirha said that there were things that needed his undivided attention at his Mdantsane home.
“I have sat down with my family and have decided to go back to boxing. I’m going to return to Cape Town and train under coach Saligh (Dollie),” Tyirha said.
Ink Sport has been reliably informed that while in KuGompo City, the former South African junior-flyweight champion had a meeting with Ground Up Sports Promotions bosses, Loyiso Magqaza and his wife Roelien Magqaza, who also happens to be the boxer’s manager. The meeting was called to try to iron out differences between all role players.
And Ink Sport understands that one of the issues discussed was Tyirha’s contract with the promotional outfit. The contract expires on the 29th of June next year.
“We spoke to the promoter and he doesn’t want me to quit boxing because we have a contract, which expires next year,” Tyirha said. – Monwabisi Jimlongo
