A long overdue election of a new executive committee of the Eastern Cape Boxing Promoters’ Association (ECBPA) was held at the Amathole District offices of the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSRAC) in KuGompo City on Saturday.

Kaya Majeke from KM Sports Promotions and Events was elected as the new chairperson. Previously, Koko Godlo, who’s not a Boxing South Africa (BSA) licensee anymore, was the ECBPA chairperson.

Majeke is deputised by Boniswa Lamani while Sibongile Kebe is the new secretary and Happy Tewo is the treasurer. Phathekile Sinyabi was elected as the deputy secretary with Loyiso Magqaza being a stakeholder engagement officer and Afika Sodo is in charge of the association’s communications.

At least, promoters from the Eastern Province – Lamani and Kebe – represent their region in the ECBPA executive unlike it was the case in the past where only those from the Border region held leadership positions.
