He was decked early in the second round and it looked like his opponent, Calvin Madondo, wanted to finish him off, but Ntethelelo Nkosi came back strongly to win his fight at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, on Thursday evening.

Madondo shocked Nkosi when he decked him early in the second round. But Nkosi persevered and ended the round strongly as he also floored the Cape Town-based Zimbabwean.

Seeing that Madondo had nothing to offer, Nkosi, a former South African junior-welterweight champion, went for the jugular in the third round, forcing his opponent’s corner to throw in the towel, signalling the end of the fight.

Nkosi won for the first time since his loss in the semi-finals of the WBC Grand Prix last year and this was Madondo’s second successive defeat.

Returning to the same venue where she was stopped in the sixth round by Monica Mkandla in July, Simamkele Tutsheni redeemed herself as she registered a second round stoppage win over Misiwe Ndlovu.

Following a slow start, the firefighter from Cape Town upped her game and floored Ndlovu early in the second round. Ndlovu beat the count and carried on fighting, only for Tutsheni to land a flurry of blows, which forced fight referee, Pumeza Zinakile, to intervene in the same round.
