Both Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter and his Orlando Pirates counterpart Josef Zinnbauer agreed that the Carling Black Label Cup encounter between the two sides was a good game.
Amakhosi emerged 4-3 winners on penalties after the match, which was played at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Sunday evening, ended goalless in 90 minutes.
“I think our second half performance warranted the result. It was an even first half,” Baxter said.
“In the second half our movement around the box was much better. We looked more dangerous and I think when it goes to penalties you are just happy that you come out on top because it can go either way.”
The 67-year-old Baxter was also happy with the players, who made their Chiefs debut during the match.
Kgaogelo Sekgota, Phathutshedzo Nange, Brandon Petersen, Cole Alexander and Sifiso Hlanti played for the first time in Chiefs’ colours.
“None of the new players disappointed me. Some of the players who came we know can play. They staked a claim. So I was happy with the evening’s work,” Baxter said.
Meanwhile, Zinnbauer believes that they got what they wanted from the match despite losing on penalties.
“I think it was a good game for both teams. I think we had a good final third. We had a good opportunity to score, especially in the second half,” the German said.
