The Ghana Football Association has fired senior national team coach Charles Akonnor and his assistants.
The Black Stars’ 1-0 loss to Bafana Bafana in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier last Monday was too much to bear for the Ghana FA as Akonnor together with his two assistants David Duncan and Richard Kingson got the chop.
The Black Stars beat Ethiopia in their first World Cup qualifier before losing to Bafana Bafana and they face Zimbabwe in back-to-back matches next month.
“The executive council of the Ghana Football Association has taken a decision to terminate the appointment of Black Stars coach Charles Akonnor and his two assistants with immediate effect,” a Ghana FA statement said on Monday evening.
The 47-year-old Akonnor, who played 51 times for the Black Stars, had only been in charge in 14 matches.
