Thembani ‘Baby Jake’ Mbangatha’s manager Savva Savvas has reiterated that their focus is on the Commonwealth featherweight title than thinking about challenging for the South African belt.
Qumbu-born Mbangatha is scheduled to challenge Commonwealth featherweight champion Nathaniel Collins from Scotland at the Bolton Whites Hotel in Bolton, United Kingdom, on Friday, 26 November.
“Hopefully, we will still be ranked number one and fight for the SA title after our Commonwealth fight,” Savvas, who leaves for England together with Mbangatha next week, said.
“At this stage, because of the history of what happened with the SA featherweight title, we are gonna take a back seat for now until after the Commonwealth fight. If we win the Commonwealth belt, we will campaign internationally.”
Mbangatha, who is a policeman in Cape Town, has won all his 11 fights with five of them inside the distance while Collins is unbeaten in eight bouts.
Collins won the Commonwealth title when he stopped former Ghanaian junior-featherweight champion Felix Williams in July this year.
