The pain he endured in the last three years has not dumped Mzuvukile Magwaca’s desire to scale dizzy heights in the world of boxing.
Magwaca, who was regarded as the next big thing to come out of South Africa, suffered a lot after he was short by thugs during a robbery at his Site C, Khayelitsha, Cape Town home in January 2018.
The shooting was a massive blow to the former World Boxing Federation (WBF), World Boxing Association (WBA) Intercontinental, International Boxing Federation (IBF) Intercontinental bantamweight and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) Intercontinental flyweight champion’s aspirations to reach world stardom.
“Life has been very difficult for me since I got shot in January 2018. It’s been a painful three years. I’m working as a personal trainer now and I’m able to make money to feed my two children,” Magwaca said.
Magwaca, who turned 30 recently, is now back at training in a bid to resuscitate his boxing career.
“I have been training since last year. I started serious training towards the end of the year. The pain on my left leg is gone now,” Magwaca said.
“My plan is to fight again maybe towards the end of this year or early next year. I want to make sure that my balance is good before I return to competitive boxing. My aim is to fight in the featherweight division.”
Magwaca, who is unbeaten, is trained by Michael Mouneimne in Cape Town.
