Eastern Cape side Chippa United have given talented and wayward midfielder Luyolo Nomandela a lifeline.
The 31-year-old Nomandela was once hailed as a future star, however his off the field escapades put paid to his then promising career. He played for Free State Stars, Mamelodi Sundowns, Moroka Swallows, Jomo Cosmos and Cape Town City.
“It’s a great joy to announce Luyolo Nomandela as our new player. He is a changed man now. He is no longer doing the bad things he did before. We are giving him another chance,” Chilli Boys chairman Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi said.
Ngqeleni-born Nomandela is expected to make his Chilli Boys debut when the Gqeberha-based team face log-leaders in a DStv Premiership fixture at Mdantsane’s Sisa Dukashe Stadium in East London next Monday.
Meanwhile, Mpengesi insisted that firing Daniel ‘Dance’ Malesela was a business decision. The Chilli Boys had gone eight matches without a win and were walloped 5-1 by Maritzburg United in a six-pointer last Saturday something which didn’t go down well with Mpengesi.
The former TS Galaxy and Cape Town All Stars coach had taken the Chilli Boys to the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup where they will face GladAfrica Championship side Pretoria Callies.
“It was a business decision. The Nedbank Cup is not important, the league is more important. We have not won league matches since we started winning Nedbank Cup games,” Mpengesi said.
