Minister of Sport Nathi Mthethwa has invoked his powers and came down hard on Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Friday.
Mthethwa invoked Section 13 (5) of the National Sport Act by de-funding and de-recognising CSA following an unacceotable attitude from the cricket body’s member council.
“In the circumstances, I have decided to invoke my powers under the Act, and I hereby notify you that I have done so in accordance with Section 13 (5) (c) (i)-(iii) by de-funding CSA, de-recognising CSA, and I will cause this to be published in the Government Gazzette in due course at the earliest opportunity. I will, as soon as possible, also inform the ICC of my decision and provide them with my reasons for doing so,” Mthethwa said.
Mthethwa’s action follows after the member council voted against amendments to the memorandum of incorporation to allow for the restructuring of the organisation’s administration.
