Mamelodi Sundowns have stretched their lead at the top of the DStv Premiership standings to four points following a 2-0 win over Maritzburg United at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Wednesday afternoon.
The Brazilians broke the deadlocked through Ricardo Nascimento’s penalty in the 39th minute. The penalty came after Team of Choice defender Clayton Daniels had fouled Sundowns striker Gift Motupa inside the box. Motupa, who had a good game, scored Sundowns’ second goal in the 71st minute.
Sundowns have won 15 matches, drawn nine times and lost once while 13th-placed Team of Choice have registered six wins, seven draws and 12 losses.
The Brazilians, who are left with five games before they end the season, are now three wins away from winning the DStv Premiership trophy if second-placed AmaZulu win their last four matches to add to their 50 points from 26 games.
