Vladislav Heric has lamented the number of chances his Chippa United players missed during their goalless draw with Black Leopards in a six-pointer at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha on Wednesday afternoon.
The Chilli Boys went to the match desperate for maximum points as they seek to avoid automatic relegation or playing in the play-offs. The Chilli Boys are 14th on the log with 25 points from 27 matches.
“We dominated the 90 minutes. We just missed so many chances, we couldn’t score. Obviously, we were the better team. We showed hunger, fighting spirit is here. The boys did their best to win this game. Unfortunately, again we are not scoring,” the Chilli Boys coach said.
Heric is happy with their ball retention despite failing to convert the number of chances they created during the match.
“Happy that we had a lot of balls in the box much more than in the final,” Heric said referring to the Nedbank Cup final, which they lost 1-0 to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila last Saturday.
“Hopefully, next game we are gonna score goals. Once we start to score the goals it will be different. This is the relegation battle where you have to score the goals. I do believe it will be much better next time.”
Morgan Shivambu, who coaches Lidoda Duvha, is still positive about avoiding the axe even though Leopards are languishing at the bottom of the Premiership table with 19 points from 27 matches.
“I think it was a game of missed chances. The guys tried their best. Both teams got their chances. Both teams deserved to score. We still have nine points to play for. We will go work harder. I believe we can pull out of the relegation zone,” Shivambu said.
Lidoda Duvha face Kaizer Chiefs at home in their next match and Shivambu expects a tough clash against Amakhosi on 26 May.
“The next three games are not going to be easy, especially the next game against Chiefs, who are fighting to be in the top-eight,” said Shivambu.
