Kaizer Chiefs marketing director Jessica Motaung has committed to bring supporters’ concerns to the attention of Amakhosi bosses.
This follows after hundreds of Amakhosi supporters marched to the club’s headquarters in Naturena south of Johannesburg to deliver a memorandum on Friday morning.
Amakhosi supporters are concerned about the club’s failure to win trophies in more than four seasons. Chiefs are even struggling to get into the top-eight bracket of the DStv Premiership.
“Today I received this memorandum, but not on my own, with the management team here. And I must say I have listened carefully. We note the concerns you have raised. We also note the concerns that have been raised by other supporters, who are not here with you, through the branch structures, through the numerous letters that we get,” Jessica said.
“We have heard you. We will continue to listen. We ask you to continue sharing your thoughts with us, but doing so constructively on the platforms that the club provides. Honestly guys, I’m not here to make promises today. I can’t, it will be unfair.”
Jessica further promised to deliver the supporters’ memorandum to Amakhosi chairman Kaizer Motaung and other club bosses.
“What I can do, we all commit to, is taking these issues that you have tabled to the highest level of the organisation. Taking them to the chairman and to the relevant stakeholders. And making sure, and I say this seriously, that they are attended to, that’s very important,” Jessica promised.
“It’s important for you guys to know that we all stand here for a common interest. For all we have the same interests at heart. We all want what is best for Kaizer Chiefs. We all want what is best for the Amakhosi family. For me, today is not about a struggle. For me, today is not about a fight. It’s not even about a protest, it’s not about amandla awethu. It’s about Amakhosi awethu. We are Amakhosi, that’s the most important thing for me.”
Meanwhile, Chiefs face Tanzanian club Simba SC in the first leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec on Saturday (18h00).
