The raging COVID-19 pandemic continues to decide what must happen in the world of sport.
The deadly pandemic has forced the cancellation of the second Test match between the Springboks and Georgia.
This match, which was cancelled after positive cases from both camps, was going to be played at the Emirates Airline Park in Johannesburg on Friday.
There are 12 positive cases – players, management and coach Jacques Nienaber – in the Boks camp and four in the Georgia camp.
“In the context of the loss of life and economic damage that COVID and this third wave are wreaking, the cancellation of a rugby match is pretty trivial,” SA Rugby chief executive officer Jurie Roux said.
The latest developments bring questions around the continued British and Irish Lions tour.
