The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has apologised to the South African Football Association (SAFA) after an unnamed Bafana Bafana assistant coach was denied entry into Orlando Stadium on Saturday.

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos revealed on Monday afternoon that his assistant had gone to the Orlando East venue to watch a DStv Premiership match between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, which the Brazilians won 2-0.

“The incident is highly regrettable and the League has apologised unreservedly to the South African Football Association,” a PSL statement said on Monday evening.

The PSL added that the confusion was caused by its failure to inform Pirates about a Bafana Bafana coach’s attendance as per protocol.

The statement follows after Broos spoke about the unfortunate incident on Monday while he was announcing his squad for back-to-back 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia.
