Bafana Bafana returned to the top of the Group G standings in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers after they beat a game Ethiopia 1-0 at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Johannesburg, on Tuesday evening.

Ethiopia captain Getaneh Kebede scored an own goal in the 11th minute while trying to stop Evidence Makgopa’s header off Yusuf Maart’s corner. 

The Walias spread the ball around with neat passes and troubled Bafana Bafana in the process. 

Bafana Bafana came back into the match and were unlucky not to score as Victor Letsoalo missed from Bongokuhle Hlongwane’s beautiful cross in the 30th minute. 

The Ethiopians had a bright start in the second half raiding Bafana Bafana’s territory. But it was Bafana Bafana, who came close to scoring in the 54th minute as Makgopa’s attempt was cleared off the line. 

The Ethiopians were the better team, especially in the second half and were unlucky to lose the match.
