Benni McCarthy is unhappy despite leading his team AmaZulu to a 1-0 win over TS Galaxy in a DStv Premiership match at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Tuesday evening.
The Usuthu coach stated that his players didn’t do what they were set out to do during the match. Usuthu won through Luvuyo Memela’s goal.
“If l must be honest, Galaxy was good enough to get the win or even the draw. It was a tough one for them to take,” McCarthy remarked.
“This wasn’t our greatest performance, we walk away with the three points. This was a pity performance. I can’t praise mediocre, they know they got a lot of hard work to do.”
The former Cape Town City mentor was clearly not impressed with how his players acquitted themselves during the match. He believes that they could have done better.
“When you have a job to do, it’s very simple. Football is a complicated game because silly players want to to make it complicated. They want to do things, which they are not accustomed to. All South African players have to learn to play to their strengths,” McCarthy said.
Meanwhile, Rockets coach Sead Ramovic, who was in charge of his team for the first time since he took over following Owen da Gama’s sacking, said that he was proud of his boys’ performance.
“I have to congratulate a great opponent AmaZulu. I think it’s not easy to play a team like them because they are strong,” the German said.
“I’m actually proud of my team. We need more time to improve. We have to believe in ourselves. We had a lot of chances, I think we didn’t deserve to lose.”
