Yusuf Maart is disappointed not to be part of the Bafana Bafana squad to play 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Ghana.

A knee injury has put paid to Maart’s chances of featuring in the matches against Zimbabwe at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Johannesburg, on Thursday and Ghana in Cape Coast on Sunday.

“It’s very disappointing. But there’s nothing I can do. Good luck to the team, I know they will bring the results at the end of the day,” Maart said.

The 26-year-old midfielder picked up the knee injury while training with his team Sekhukhune United before their matches against AmaZulu and Orlando Pirates.

“I got injured two weeks back before we played AmaZulu and Pirates. I played the last game against Swallows. As I came to the camp I didn’t want to cause problems between our side and the team,” he said.

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has since called SuperSport United midfielder Jesse Donn to replace Maart.

“I’m still young, I’m still fresh. When I bounce back I will have a positive mindset,” Maart said.
