Three judges from different provinces have declared that Asanda Gingqi was a deserving winner of the South African featherweight title in September.

This comes after the Boxing South Africa (BSA) sanctioning committee approved a review of Gingqi’s fight against Abdul-Aziz Kunert, which took place at the Booysens Boxing Gym in Johannesburg on 26 September.

An application to review the fight was brought by Kunert’s camp after Gingqi had won by a split decision. Now the three judges, who reviewed the fight, have declared that Gingqi by a unanimous decision.

And the BSA sanctioning committee has since decided that there will be no rematch between Gingqi and Kunert.

Meanwhile, Gingqi is preparing to face Russian Olympic gold medallist Albert Batyrgaziev. The fight is going to be held in Russia on Friday, 24 December.

Batyrgaziev wrote his name into history books when he became the first professional boxer to win an Olympic gold medal in August. The 23-year-old Russian southpaw defeated American Duke Ragan at the Tokyo Olympics in Japan.
