Stand-in Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane is satisfied with how Amakhosi players performed when they beat Sekhukhune United 2-0 in a DStv Premiership match at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Johannesburg, on Sunday evening.
Chiefs finally took to the field after they couldn’t play home and away matches against Cape Town City and Lamontville Golden Arrows because of more than 30 positive COVID-19 cases in their camp. They won Sunday’s match with goals from Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Phathutshedzo Nange.
“Look, I think we had a very, very good first half. We knew that in the second half when the energy levels dropped we had to start making mistakes,” Zwane said.
“We had to beef up defence because we already had an advantage in terms of scoring first. We had to make forced changes something which we anticipated.”
The former Chiefs speedy winger insisted that his players followed their plan thus they managed to win the match.
“I think we executed the plan because that’s what we were expecting from them. They had quick players, we had to neutralise them. I think we planned very well, it worked for us. I’m so proud of the boys. Some of them I never thought they would play 90 minutes,” Zwane said.
Babina Noko coach MacDonald Makhubedu, meanwhile, is adamant that they deserved to win the match.
“I think we could have won the match. We were always in the final third, especially in the second half. They scored due to our mistakes. I think we could have done better,” Makhubedu said.
