The camp of unbeaten world title hopeful Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga has roped in Hot Box Gym chief trainer Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan.
Nontshinga is due to challenge current International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-featherweight champion Felix Alvarado from Nicaragua.
Having watched Nathan leading boxers to IBF, World Boxing Association (WBA) and Ring Magazine belts, Nontshinga’s trainer and father Thembani ‘Best’ Gopheni felt compelled to go ask the Johannesburg-based boxing coach to join his team.
“We all know that Colin Nathan is Rumble Africa’s international adviser and I speak with him all the time regarding Sive’s career. Colin won the IBF, WBA and Ring Magazine belts something we cannot ignore. We need his experience in our team. Sive’s career is where it is at the moment because of Colin’s assistance. We will gladly go if Sive has to train in Johannesburg,” Gopheni said.
Award-winning Nathan, who has guided boxers like Hekkie Budler and Moruti Mthalane to world title glory, said: “Best asked me to take care of his son’s career moving forward. There’s is no poaching here. This is about Nontshinga’s career.”
The 23-year-old Nontshinga was due to have challenged Alvarado at the T & T Centre in San Antonio, Texas, last month, but couldn’t fly to the United States after the Joe Biden regime’s travel ban on South Africa following the discovery of the COVID-19 variant Omicron.
Nontshinga defeated Filipino boxer Christian Araneta in an elimination bout at the Boardwalk Casino and Hotel in Gqeberha last April.
