Rugby World Cup-winning lock Eben Etzebeth is returning to South Africa after he agreed to join the Sharks in Durban. 

Currently, Etzebeth plays for French side Toulon and the French have agreed to release him at the end of the season. Initially, Etzebeth’s contract with Toulon was set to expire in 2023. 

“Eben Etzebeth has expressed his desire to put an early end to the contract binding him to Toulonnais in order to return to South Africa,” a statement from Toulon said. 

The 30-year-old Etzebeth is going to team up with fellowing Boks Siya Kolisi, Makazole Mapimpi, Bongi Mbonambi, Lukanyo AM and Sbu Nkosi at the Sharks.
