Argentine boxer Fernando Martinez scored an upset win over Jerwin Ancajas from the Philippines in a thrilling bout at the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas in Nevada, United States, on Sunday morning (South African time).

The 30-year-old Martinez earned a unanimous decision and dethroned Anjacas, who was attempting to make his 10th successful defence of the International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-bantamweight title. Anjacas, 30, won the title when he defeated Puerto Rican McJoe Arroyo in 2016.

Judge Max de Luca scored the fight 117-111 with both David Sutherland and Steve Weisfeld scoring it 118-110 all in favour of Martinez.

The unbeaten Martinez has improved his record to 14 victories with eight stoppages while Anjacas dropped to 33 wins (22 knockouts), two defeats and two draws.
