Ugandan-born goalkeeper Denis Onyango made history when his club Mamelodi Sundowns won their fifth straight league title following a goalless draw with Cape Town City at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Wednesday evening.

The 36-year-old former Ugandan national team captain from Kampala has become the first player to win nine league titles.

Onyango won three (2008/09, 2009/10 and 2010/11) league titles with SuperSport United and six (2015/16, 2017/18, 2018/19, 2019/20, 2020/21 and 2021/22) with the Brazilians.
