Gonçalo Ramos scored the first hattrick of the 2022 FIFA World Cup finals as Portugal humiliated Switzerland 6-1 at the Lusail Iconic Stadium in Lusail, Qatar, on Tuesday evening.

The Portuguese have, as a result of their victory, set up a quarter-final clash against Morocco, who beat Spain 3-0 on penalties in an earlier match.

Ramos, Cristiano Ronaldo’s replacement in the starting line-up, opened the scoring for the Selection of Shields in the 17th minute off a pass from Joao Felix. The Portuguese doubled their lead when veteran defender and captain Pepe scored with a header in the 33rd minute.

Ramos completed his brace after he beat Switzerland goalkeeper Yann Sommer six minutes into the second half and Raphael Guerreiro made it 4-0 in the 56th minute.

Two minutes later, the Swiss scored their consolation goal when Manuel Akanji pulled one back.

The 21-year-old Ramos was not done yet as he completed his hattrick making it 5-1 in the 68th minute. Second half substitute Rafael Leão scored Portugal’s sixth goal in referee’s added time.
