Former world champion Zolani ‘Last Born’ Tete will know on Friday whether his B sample has also tested positive for a banned substance stanazolol, a muscle-cutting agent, or not.

Tete’s sample, which was taken after he stopped Briton Jason Cunningham in the fourth round at the OVO Arena in Wembley, London, in July last year, came back positive for a performance-enhancing drug.

Tete won the Commonwealth, IBF International and World Boxing Organisation (WBO) International junior-featherweight titles following the win over Cunningham.

As a result of the positive test, Boxing South Africa (BSA) suspended the former IBF junior-bantamweight and WBO bantamweight titlist’s licence in November last year.

“We expect the results tomorrow (Friday). Parallel to that, I have taken all his sports supplements he was using during preparation for laboratory analysis in France in case they were contaminated. As of now, we can’t place exactly where he got this PED. The team is doing everything possible to look for the cause,” Tete’s manager Mlandeli Tengimfene said.

Mdantsane-born Tete, who turns 35 in March, faces a four-year ban should his B sample also come back positive for the banned substance.
