SuperSport United announced on Friday afternoon that left-footed defender Lyle Lakayh had returned to the club after signing a two-year contract with an option to extend.

The 32-year-old Lakay started his professional career at Matsatsantsa after he was promoted to the senior team by coach Gavin Hunt in 2009.

“I’m very happy to be back where it all started with the same coach that gave me my professional debut. I know what the team has achieved before with winning trophies, finishing third last season, and winning the league when the coach was here. By saying that, I think we have a good mix of experience and youngsters to try and compete for silverware and I will do my best to try and help the team, but also to help and guide the youngsters,” Lakay said.

The 2021/22 Defender of the Season award winner was on loan at Cape Town City from Mamelodi Sundowns last season.
