Boxers who took part in the Insane Boxing Promotions tournament in Cape Town last Friday are smiling all the way to bank while their counterparts who fought at the Rise of Women in Boxing and Xaba Promotions tournaments in Durban and Orlando East respectively have sadly not been paid.

That we have boxers, who are yet to be paid their purses because no money was deposited into the Boxing South Africa (BSA) account violates the SA Boxing Act No 11 of 2001, which says: “A promoter who, for whatever reason/s, is unable to pay the purse money by the due date, may submit in writing to BSA, no later than 14 days before the tournament, a request for a postponement. Failure to pay purse money by the due date will result in Boxing SA cancelling the tournament.”

Abdul-Aziz Kunert, who drew with South African featherweight champion Zolisa Batyi at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) in Bellville has revealed that his purse has been paid.

“I’m happy to say that my purse has already been paid after my fight against Batyi,” Kunert confirmed on Wednesday morning.

Kunert’s opponent Batyi, who comes from Nxarhuni, also confirmed that he did receive his purse on Tuesday.

“I have been paid. I received my money late on Tuesday,” Batyi said.

Apart from Kunert and Batyi, boxers who fought in Cape Town confirmed receiving their purses.
