Yanga ‘Showtime’ Sigqibo from Duncan Village in East London fully understands that Namibian boxer Jonas Matheus is a formidable opponent.

However, Sigqibo is confident that he will make it against the Namibian and his hand will be raised after the end of their fight, which is set for Vodaworld in Midrand on Saturday, 30 September.

This fight forms part of the tournament, which is going to be promoted by Joyce Kungwane’s TLB Boxing Promotions.

Initially, Sigqibo was scheduled to have a showdown with Brazilian boxer Gustavo Lucas dos Santos last month, but the date and opponent were changed.

“I don’t know much about him except that I watched him when he fought against (Gideon) Buthelezi. He did well against a Buthelezi, who was not at his best. Jonas is not going to beat me, no, never. We are talking about levels here,” the former South African junior-bantamweight champion said.

This is going to be Sigqibo’s first fight since he was outpointed by former World Boxing Organisation (WBO) minimumweight, junior-flyweight and flyweight champion Kosei Tanaka away in Japan last December.

On the other hand, Matheus will be fighting against a South African opponent for the third time. He lost to Buthelezi in East London in July 2021 and defeated Makazole Tete in Mthatha three years earlier.
