World Boxing Federation (WBF) president Howard Goldberg has remembered the late former boxing administrator Andile Miki Klaas, who passed away on Sunday afternoon.

The former professional boxer passed away after he had been battling ill-health for years. He was a World Boxing Organisation (WBO) supervisor in Africa at the time of his death.

Klaas from Gugulethu in Cape Town served BSA for 20 years as a Western Cape provincial manager.

“He was one of the most hard working and nicest guys around. He was always smiling, always laughing and always ready to help. He was very, very professional,” Goldberg said.

“He dedicated his life to boxing. He was tremendously respected in the Western Cape and he will be solely missed. Cape Town has lost a very important servant to boxing.”

Goldberg, who is a former referee and judge, added that he last saw Klaas a few months ago.

“I saw him in Jackie Brice’s tournament in Ottery a few months ago. He was so happy to see me even though he was frail. I hadn’t seen him for a while before that,” Goldberg remarked.

“He was a good man. I refereed one of his fights when he was still a a professional boxer. His death is a big loss not only for Cape Town, but boxing in South Africa.”
