Happiness was written all over the faces of inexperienced boxer Simamkele Singile and his manager Sizwe Maci after they signed a binding Boxing South Africa (BSA) managerial contract on Thursday.

The pair inked their pact in front of BSA Eastern Cape provincial manager Phakamile Jacobs, who acted as a witness during their signing of the contract. Singile and Maci had been trying to sign the contract since September last year, but their efforts were consistently frustrated by Jacobs, who gave them the run around.

His behaviour then forced them to take BSA and Jacobs to the High Court of South Africa Eastern Cape Division in Makhanda. The High Court ruled in their favour forcing Jacobs to help them sign the contract.

“Signed and sealed. The atmosphere was friendly. There were no issues,” a relieved Maci said.

The 19-year-old Singile made his professional debut when he scored a second round knockout win over Siyambuka Nomatiti at Tsolo Junction Hall in December last year.

KwaBhaca-born Singile, who campaigns in the junior-featherweight division, is a Grade 12 learner at Kusile Comprehensive School in Duncan Village, East London.
