Paradise Boxing Club manager Thembelani ‘Shakes’ Hlombe believes that Mhlanganisi Sogcwayi can strike it lucky now that he has moved up two divisions – from featherweight to the lightweight division.

Sogcwayi, who is trained by former World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) featherweight champion Simphiwe Vetyeka at the Paradise Boxing Club in Nxarhuni, has not fought for more than a year.

“We are changing Mhlanganisi Sogcwayi from featherweight. We want him to fight at lightweight. We wanna see if we can’t get something at lightweight. His first fight at lightweight is on the 31st of March,” Hlombe said.

The 25-year-old Sogcwayi from Mdantsane, who has not fought since a third round stoppage victory over Itumeleng Tsholo at the Portuguese Hall in Johannesburg in September 2022, clashes with Mbuyiseli Ndukwana in a four rounds bout at the Orient Theatre in East London next month.

Before fighting against Tsholo, Sogcwayi lost to Sange Ngoza in an Eastern Cape title contest at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) four months earlier.
