Veteran boxer Thembelani Nxoshe has withdrawn from the X Promotions tournament, which is scheduled for the Whittlesea Multipurpose Hall in Sada on Saturday, 13 April.

Initially, the former South African flyweight champion was set to test his fistic skills against youngster Moyisi Booi in an Eastern Cape title defence. However, things changed after Booi was reported to be nursing a swollen ankle.

Tournament organisers approached Siyanda Tona, but his handlers turned down the offer saying their boxer was not ready to fight. Nxoshe has since signed for a six rounds bout at a Xaba Promotions tournament next month.

“We have pulled out of the tournament because we couldn’t get an opponent. We are now going to fight at a Xaba Promotions tournament next month even though we don’t know the opponent yet,” Magatya said.

Meanwhile, Nxoshe has not fought since he failed in his bid to become a two-time SA flyweight titlist after he was outpointed by Jackson ‘M3’ Chauke, who is now an International Boxing Organisation (IBO) champion.
