It was definitely not a fight where one would say wow, however, South African featherweight champion Zolisa Batyi would be proud to have performed the job and retained his title after he stopped Lucky Hobyane in the eighth round.

After watching a number of interesting rounds which came before the main bout, boxing lovers who converged at the Orient Theatre in East London on Sunday could be forgiven for feeling cheated as Batyi’s fight against Hobyane lacked something.

But Batyi would be content with having successfully defended his title for the second time as fight referee Allen Matakane stopped the proceedings in two minutes and 58 seconds.

Meanwhile, Chumani Tunzi became the new Eastern Cape junior-welterweight champion after he stopped Luvuyo Mputi in two minutes and eight seconds in the sixth round in an action packed bout.

This fight could have gone either way as both boxers hammered each other at will. Tunzi was down twice in the second round and he decked Mputi in the sixth round.
