Mandla Ntlanganiso has explained what the way forward is in the aftermath of the North Gauteng High Court ruling regarding the National Professional Boxing Promoters Association (NPBPA) challenging his appointment as accounting authority at Boxing South Africa (BSA).

The North Gauteng High Court ruled last week that the NPBPA lacked the right to challenge the decision taken by Minister of Sport Zizi Kodwa and Minister of Finance Enoch Godongwana in appointing Ntlanganiso.

Speaking on Newzroom 405 on Tuesday morning, Ntlanganiso said: “Indeed, the court ruling was a huge relief, not only for me, but also for the entire boxing fraternity. If you could have seen the jubilation and joy that was shown across the country when the ruling was out.

“It clearly showed that a lot of people are happy with what the court decided because it granted some relief to the whole confusion that was deliberately created. We are saying now we are moving forward with boxing and everything that has to be done when it comes to boxing nothing would stop it.”

On the NPBPA being opposed to his appointment, Ntlanganiso said: “For me, from where I’m sitting being the COO of boxing, currently the accounting authority, I know there’s something beyond the whole consultation. The court case is just a smoke screen. But when the time is right, we will be able to to explain it clearly to the public because we’ve got information internally that it’s not about consultation.

“We will let the legal gurus and legal minds deal with that as they have dealt with this particular case to show that even the people who are challenging us, they don’t have locus standi, not complying with the same Act that they are challenging the Minister.”

Meanwhile, the Mdantsane-born boxing administrator said that he has no problem with the NPBPA appealing the High Court ruling.

“We are in a democratic country and the legal processes are there for everyone to exploit. So, if they decide to go and appeal, it’s within their right. Again, we will meet in court,” Ntlanganiso said.
