It was a joyous occasion as Banyana Banyana coach Desiree Ellis was awarded an honorary doctorate degree in Sports Management by the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) in Cape Town on Thursday.
The 61-year-old Ellis from Salt River in Cape Town has done exceptionally well since taking over as Banyana coach in 2016.
Because of her impressive coaching abilities, Ellis, a former Banyana captain, has won the CAF Coach of the Year award three times.
