Mamelodi Sundowns have set up a date with Orlando Pirates in the final of the Nedbank Cup at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit on Saturday, 1 June.

This came after the Brazilians defeated Stellenbosch FC 2-1 at the Danie Craven Stadium in the Cape Winelands on Sunday afternoon.

After making a number of forays into the Stellies territory, Sundowns right back Khuliso Mudau put the Brazilians ahead beating Oscarine Masuluke from a tight angle in the 11th minute.

There was drama when first assistant referee Zakhele Siwela had to be replaced following a hamstring injury. Siwela was replaced by fourth official Christopher Kistoor, who became a second assistant referee.

Substitute Thembinkosi Lorch headed in past Masuluke for the Brazilians’ second goal following a pass from Peter Shalulile in the 74th minute.

Shalulile missed an opportunity to make it 3-0 after he shot wide from the penalty spot 10 minutes before full-time. Match referee Jelly Chavani had awarded the Tshwane giants the penalty following a foul on Mudau.

A minute later, poor defending my Sundowns defenders resulted in Genino Palace scoring for Stellies. However, Sundowns held on to their lead until the end of the match.
